Read about everything fitness, health and lifestyle to learn more about how you can improve your quality of life.
This weeks' post oversteps the mark for a typical Online Personal Trainer's blog, but given I'm passionate about evidence based, gimmick-free practices in the field of health, wellness and fitness, I thought I would have a little vent in the hope that I can stop just one person from believing a rumour that is a waste of time and energy, that unfortunately keeps getting regurgitated by idiotic politicians who keep making headlines in the media which should frankly be more responsible in reporting it.
I've watched interviews, read articles and listened to podcasts with leading epidemiologists & virologists and have a clear understanding that COVID-19 was NOT man made. So why does the rumour that it's man made in a lab just not die?
Sadly, because we have complete nutjobs like Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo in the world, and sadly, not only do these nutjobs exist, but they somehow became the President and Secretary of State of the USA.
I heard one of the world leading experts in virus and disease epidemiology, Michael Osterholm explain it very succinctly, simply that humans don't have the technology, or the creativity to create a virus like SARS-CoV-2 and that anyone who has spent more than half an hour learning about viruses on Wikipedia will understand how it's impossible for a virus like COVID-19 to be man made.
So can we just move on?
I have listed some more myths below, and at the end of this post I have two links from up to date sources with scientific FACTS that are constantly updated. So if you want to know and understand the facts about this awful disease, read them
MYTH 1: If you have Covid-19, you can tell
A dry cough is more common with COVID-19, but a wet cough and a runny nose are possible. There is no easy way to distinguish between COVID-19, the flu, and the common cold.
You may have heard that if you can hold your breath for more than 10 seconds without coughing or discomfort, you don’t have COVID-19 — this is untrue.
MYTH 2: You’re contagious only if you have symptoms.
When infected, most people don’t show any symptoms for 2–14 days. Some never do.
MYTH 3: Staying at home is necessary only if you’re sick.
MYTH 4: COVID-19 is less dangerous than the seasonal flu.
In fact the opposite is true, especially as there is no vaccine for COVID-19
MYTH 5: COVID-19 is dangerous only for older people.
MYTH 6: The virus will disappear when it gets warmer.
MYTH 7: A vaccine will be available soon.
It's true that several vaccines are in trials at the moment, but a vaccine that is safe and mass produced is more like 3 years or more away. Some of today's modern vaccines that we now take for granted took more than a decade to develop.
MYTH 8: Supplements have proven efficacy against COVID-19.
There have been some laughable and downright dangerous supposed cures and treatments for Corona Virus. The fact is, there are no known treatments, no cure, and no vaccine. End of story. Here are some of the most ridiculous ones I've seen or had sent to me in the last few months
- Volcanic Ash
- Colloidal Silver
- Fish Tank water conditioner (An american guy drank this, and died. Don't be stupid people)
- Drinking bleach (Seriously, I mean... really? What!?)
- Gargling Betadine
- High doses of intravenous Vitamin C
- Various essential oils
- Various malaria treatments, all of which have now been shown to not work and in some cases make the sickness worse
- Divine Cleansing Oil (I....I.... I can't even... https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-52480133
- "Covid-Organics" Yes. This article isn't a pisstake, the President of Madagascar has even publicly promoted it. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-29/madagascan-president-promotes-covid-herbal-drink/12195556
